Cerro Tronador Tour in Bariloche

Cerro Tronador (Tronador Hill) is an extinct volcano located on the border between Argentina and Chile. With an altitude of 3478 m, it was named Tronador (Spanish term for “thunderer”) due to the sound produced by the frequent seracs that fall from its seven glaciers.

The Cerro Tronador excursion begins in Bariloche. After going along Gutierrez and Mascardi Lakes, and crossing Los Cesares Stream, tourists may visit the beautiful Los Cesares Cascade. By the end of the tour, after crossing the bridge over Manso River, visitors may see the glacier popularly known as Ventisquero Negro (Black Snowdrift) –which is black as a result of the dirt and sediments it picks up along its way. From that point, tourist may appreciate the three peaks of Cerro Tronador. The tour ends upon arriving at a rocky amphitheater known as Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat), whose main attraction is its cascades, among which Los Alerces Cascade –a 20 m waterfall surrounded by fitzroyas – stands out.

Undoubtedly, the Cerro Tronador excursion is a really picturesque tour in which tourists can admire the natural beauty around this Patagonian city.
