Travel and Tourism - San Antonio de los Cobres con Ruta 40 Argentina

San Antonio de los Cobres is a mining town located 164 km northwest of the city of Salta. Known as the capital of the Puna Region, San Antonio de los Cobres became famous after the arrival of the Tren a las Nubes (Train to the Clouds) in 1921.

The San Antonio de los Cobres excursion consists in a 4x4 tour along National Route 51 (RN 51), which is parallel to the train lines. During the 390 km tour, tourists may enjoy the wonderful landscapes of Campo Quijano, Blanco River, Quebrada del Toro (Toro's Ravine), El Alisal and the pre-Hispanic city of Santa Rosa de Tastil, until arriving at San Antonio de los Cobres, situated at 3775 m above sea level. During the tour, tourists will visit pre-Inca ruins and see the Tren a las Nubes climbing up to the famous La Polvorilla Viaduct, apart from having the opportunity of observing wild animals in their natural habitat.

Undoubtedly, the San Antonio de los Cobres excursion is a picturesque tour in which tourists can admire the natural beauty of the Puna Region and one of the most magnificent engineering works in the world.
